Jednání Čechů s basilejským koncilem lze označit za vrcholný okamžik husitské revoluce, jemuž byla v dosavadní literatuře věnována značná pozornost. Autor na základě rozsáhlého rukopisného studia nahlíží slyšení husitů v Basileji a zrod kompaktát v nové perspektivě. V centru jeho pozornosti stojí kauza přijímání laiků z eucharistického kalicha, která měla v bouřlivých událostech hlavní slovo. Ač byla námětem ostrých polemik univerzitních vzdělanců, stala se rovněž předmětem diplomatického vyjednávání. Kniha tak přináší analýzu různých podob koexistence středověkého učeneckého idealismu a politického pragmatismu.

The negotiations between Bohemians and the Council of Basel can be described as the culmination of the Hussite revolution, to which considerable attention has been paid in the literature so far. Based on an extensive manuscript study, the author views the hearing of the Hussites in Basel and the birth of the Compactata in a new perspective. At the center of his attention is the polemics on reception of the eucharist under both kinds, which dominated the turbulent events. Although the subject of sharp controversy among university scholars, it also became the subject of diplomatic negotiations. The book thus provides an analysis of the various forms of coexistence of medieval scholarly idealism and political pragmatism.
