The book summarizes a project aimed at excavation and analysis of chert exploitation and utilization by the Bell Beaker culture people at Stránská skála Hill in Brno, Czech Republic. The excavated sunken feature yielded an extremely large collection of lithic artifacts including hammerstones as well as pottery shards, bones, molluscs, charcoal, daub, red ochre, and other artifacts documenting not only chert exploitation and knapping (a primary workshop) but also domestic activities within the area. The results are interpreted as optimizing rather than systematic lithic production during the transitional period between the Late Eneolithic and the Early Bronze age.
