Vodní hospodářství v Česku prošlo po druhé světové válce zásadní proměnou. Když rozložení vod v přírodě přestalo stačit společenským potřebám, stát přistoupil k rozsáhlé výstavbě vodních infrastruktur. Namísto přírody se garantem oběhu vody měl stát člověk a jím řízené technické sítě. Zkušenosti z realizace Státního vodohospodářského plánu z 50. let či stavby vodního díla Nové Mlýny ukazují, že podobné představy vedle některých pozitivních výsledků přinášejí i zásadní problémy.
Water management in the Czech Republic underwent a fundamental transformation after the World War II,driven by modernist ideology.. Instead of nature, men-made infrastructural networks and system should become the guarantor of water circulation on the national territory. Experiences from the implementation of the State Water Management Plan in the 1950s and form the construction of the Nové Mlýny waterworks in 1970s show that, in addition to achieveng some positive results, such ideas and their realization present major problems for the future.
