It is well established that three-dimensional retinal organoids can be generated from mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs). Growth and specification of these organoids is temporally and spatially comparable with eye development in vivo. A protocol for successful generation of mouse retinal organoids using EB3/5 mESCs was implemented and optimized. Retinal organoids can be utilized in drug testing, for high-throughput screening techniques, disease modeling or for producing cells suitable for transplantation to cure eye diseases.
