Studie zkoumá, jak mohou studenti přistoupit ke specifické proměnlivosti středověkého textu na příkladu dvou verzí starofrancouzské Písně o Rolandovi, jež tvoří běžnou součást výkladu o středověku v rámci českého jazyka a literatury. Nejznámější verzi Písně, tu oxfordskou, srovnáváme s mladším rukopisem z Châteauroux. Ukazuje se, že mladší verze zjednodušuje děj, mnohem těsněji se váže k základnímu příběhu křesťanství a předkládá jinou koncepci hrdinství. Toho všeho lze pedagogicky využít a do školního prostředí tak vnést podněty současné filologie a literární vědy.

The essay aims at showing the ways how the student can engage the specific fluidity of medieval text on examples taken from two versions of the canonical Song of Roland – the classical, esteemed Oxford Manuscript and a later version, conserved in a manuscript in Châteauroux. It is shown that the later version simplifies the story, connects it more tightly with the Christian mythos and makes corresponding changes the way of dealing with individual characters and heroism as such. All of this can be used pedagogically to bring the impulses of contemporary philology and literary science into the school environment.
