Vědecké dílo Jana Mukařovského je předmětem interpretací a systematického teoretického a literárněhistorického výzkumu již několik desetiletí. Nedílnou součástí tohoto výzkumu jsou i pokusy o periodizaci jeho díla, o roztřídění na úseky, fáze či období, ze kterých je patrný vývoj a proměna jeho badatelské orientace. Autor ve své studii upozorňuje na předpoklady a kritéria, na základě kterých takové periodizace vznikají. V závěru autor nabízí přehled faktů a souvislostí, které je nutné brát v úvahu při podrobné periodizaci života a díla Jana Mukařovského.

The scholarly work of Jan Mukařovský has been interpreted and systematically researched for decades. The part of the research is also an attempt to periodize Mukařovský´s work, to classify it to stages, or periods that can illustrate the development and even the transformation of his identity as a scholar and researcher. The author of the study points out what suppositions and what criteria ground such attempts. In conclusion, the author offers a survey of facts and connections that need to be taken into consideration when the life and work of Jan Mukařovský are to be under the scrutiny of periodization.
