This work is focused on the preparation and crystal growth of Cs2HfCl6 by the vertical Bridgman method. The X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction analyses of the as-grown crystals together with the thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry contributed to the optimization of the technological process. Grown crystals were cut and polished for further characterizations by means of absorbance, radioluminescence, and photoluminescence emission, excitation, and decay kinetics and their temperature dependence. Influence of various excitation sources on the photoluminescence emission spectra will be discussed. Furthermore, the electron paramagnetic resonance was applied as a useful tool to reveal the origin of the luminescence mechanism.
