Článek se zabývá problémem evropského rozpětí národní (konkrétně české) historiografie v první polovině 20. století. Analyzuje díla Karla Stloukala o dějinách papežství a Josefa Matouška o evropské protiosmanské diplomacii v 16. století a dokládá mimořádný význam římských výzkumů pro internacionalizaci dějepisectví v období mezi první a druhou světovou válkou.

The article deals with the problem of the Europeization of a national (concretely Czech) historiography in the first half of the 20th century. It analyses the works written by Karel Stloukal on history of the Papacy and by Josef Matoušek on history of the European anti-Ottoman diplomacy in the 16th century. It documents an extraordinary importance of the research in Rome for the internationalization of historiography in the period between the WWI and WWII.
