The paper deals with numerical simulation of the response of the three types of helmets (combat helmets, helmets for military policeman and helmet for the paratroopers) to ballistic impact by the fragment simulating projectile (1.1 g). All tested helmets were made from aramid laminate. The geometry of the helmets was obtained using 3D scanning and following smoothing. The simulations of the frontal, side and back impacts of the fragment-simulating projectile (FSP) were carried out using LS-DYNA. As a ballistic limit V50 was taken the fragment striking velocity when 90% of layers were damaged. The simulation results showed that ballistic performance of the helmet is affected namely by the impact point position.
