Kulturní diplomacie je důležitou strategií vytváření mezinárodního obrazu mimo jiné i proto, že vládnoucí Komunistická strana Číny od osmdesátých let 20. století postupně upozaďuje ortodoxní komunistickou ideologii a prezentuje Čínu jako nositelku tradičních kulturních hodnot tisícileté čínské civilizace

This book examines the cultural diplomacy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the early Xi Jinping period (2012–2017), along with its regional variations, as one of the instruments of attaining the status of a global economic and political power. Just as the ruling dynasties and political elites of early and imperial China counted cultural and civilizational values among their primary assets in forming relations with the surrounding world, the contemporary Chinese state seeks to use culture to gain soft power and advance the national interest. Furthermore, cultural diplomacy is an essential strategy of national image building because the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) has been gradually shelving abstract Communist ideology and instead presenting China as the bearer of the traditional cultural values of a millennia-old Chinese civilization. These trends have been particularly obvious in recent years as China has begun to play a more prominent role in international relations
