Rozsáhlá kolektivní publikace přibližuje první dekádu existence Československé akademie věd (1952–1962) a zároveň líčí okolnosti založení této klíčové instituce vědy druhé poloviny 20. století v Československu. Publikace zkoumá vývoj celé instituce stejně jako proměny sboru členů a vedení ČSAV v širokém politickém a společenském kontextu. Reflektuje i vývoj vybraných důležitých vědeckých ústavů a některých společných pracovišť a zařízení. Velká pozornost je věnována mimořádně důležité otázce mezinárodních kontaktů a nechybí ani medailony nejvýznamnějších osobností ve vedení tehdejší ČSAV. Knihu doprovází množství ilustrací a přílohy, především seznam všech členů ČSAV v letech 1952–1962 a všech vědeckých pracovišť ČSAV v této době.

An extensive collective publication describes the first decade of the existence of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1952–1962) and presents the circumstances of the founding of this key institution of science in the second half of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia. The publication examines the development of the whole institution as well as the transformation of the members of the CSAS and its management in a broad political and social context. It also focuses on the development of selected important scientific institutes and some common workplaces and facilities. Great attention is paid to the extremely important issue of international contacts and the biographical notes on the most important figures in the leadership of the then Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The book is accompanied by a number of illustrations and appendices, in particular a list of all members of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1952–1962 and all the research and scientific institutions of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences at that time.
