Studie se zabývá obecnými kulturními, sociálními a epistemologickými podmínkami, které vedly s nástupem moderní výkonové společnosti k rozmachu klamavých praxí a k jejich prohlubující se společenské reflexi. Argumentuje, že také známé české literární mystifikace (zejména RKZ) lze chápat jako součást této velké množiny klamavých praxí. Při jejich interpretaci je proto vedle národnostní ideologie třeba zohlednit i další důležité aspekty dobové společnosti, včetně její sílící orientace na výkon.

The study deals with the general conditions that led from the beginning of the modern performance society to the boom of deceptive practices, including their subtle social reflection. It argues that also the famous 19th-century literary mystifications can be understood as a part of this large set of deceptive practices. In their interpreting, therefore, not only the national ideology but also other important social aspects must be considered, including the increasing focus on performance.
