L’Actus Essendi selon quelques thomistes majeurs livre un parcours parmi quelques-uns des auteurs les plus significatifs de l’école thomiste, entre le 15ème et le 17ème siècle. La difficulté liée à l’interprétation de l’actus essendi provient de la multiplicité des significations du terme même d’esse (être). La finalité de leur travail n’est pas pour de reconstruire la pensée de Thomas dans un sens historique, mais ils visent à présenter une doctrine cohérente du point de vue réel ou spéculatif. La majeure partie d’entre eux, a soutenu la thèse de la gradualité ontologique dans la formation ontologique de l’étant, tout en ne conférant pas aux composants l’existence indépendante. Le texte manifeste du désir des auteurs thomistes de trouver sans cesse chez leur maître, des réponses nouvelles aux interrogations philosophiques survenant en leur temps, et pour lesquelles le Docteur Angélique avait donné plutôt des principes fondamentaux que des réponses définitives.

The Actus Essendi (Act of Being) According to some Major Thomists presents a journey among some of the most significant authors of the Thomistic school, between the 15th and 17th century. The difficulty in interpreting the act of being comes from the multiplicity of meanings of the term even esse (to be). The purpose of their work is not to reconstruct the thought of Thomas in a historical sense, but they are intended to present a coherent doctrine of the real or speculative point of view. Most of them supported the thesis of ontological gradation in the ontological formation of being, while not giving an independent existence to the singular components. The text explains the desire of Thomistic authors, find constantly to their Master, the new answers to philosophical questions arising in their time, and for which the Angelic Doctor had given rather basic principles that definitive answers.
