This paper discusses new opportunities in museum experience enhancement assisted by information technologies such as virtual and augmented realities as well as access to 'big data' and multi-disciplinary data. The paper's main thesis stresses the key importance of a traditional display of artefacts and the selection of artefacts as a decisive act of interpretation imposing meaning upon a collection, while the 'digital' enables individual exploration of a subject as demonstrated on discussed applications.
