The presentation gives an overview about an experimental apparatus and measurement technique tailored to relative density measurements of supercooled water or aqueous solutions. Results of relative densities for heavy water from -20 °C to 25 °C and from the atmospheric pressure to 100 MPa are presented. Acquired relative densities were further processed within thermodynamic integration and served also for a development of equation of state in terms of specific Gibbs energy. Obtained results are compared in detail with relevant literature data and especially with a new reference equation of state for heavy water [S. Herrig et al., J. Phys. Chem. Ref. Data 47, 043102 (2018)], which was adopted by The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) in 2018.
