Here we report novel instrumentation including open-source epiluminescence detector for recording photon-upconversion luminescence from water microdroplets generated in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic chip. As a model biochemical experiment, the activity of β-glucosidase was measured. The introduced approach opens new possibilities for automation of digital bioaffinity assays and single cell experiments.
