This research focused on a particular part of the region north of the Alps covering mainly the southern part of the Czech Republic and the neighbouring northern part of Austria. It has been carried out as a part of two Research projects for the last seven years. The investigation began in the southern Czech Republic and it included nine Renaissance figural sgraffiti, of which three had not been restored, thus, they were completely authentic. Most of the investigated sgraffiti had grey-coloured intonaco, only one was without any colouring additives bearing the natural colour of sand. Five samples of coloured intonaco were taken for aggregate and binder analysis and thirty-five samples of sgraffito layers were assessed by microscopy.
