In this contribution, we show the applicability of BDD electrodes for (i) the water purification and (ii) the water disinfection. In the first part, we demonstrate the applicability of BDD electrodes for the decomposition of diclofenac by electrochemically generated OH* radicals. Optical absorbance (UV-Vis) and differential pulse voltammetry were provided to evaluate the degradation of diclofenac. In the second part, we focus on the bacteria growth inhibition and bacteria killing at room water temperature employing an electrochemical treatment. The treatment was provided at a constant current density (100 mA/cm2) and treatment times up to 120 min using the BDD electrodes.
