We have demonstrated the application of Auger microprobe in REELS mode for chemical analysis and qualitative mapping of composite sample consisting of three carbon allotropes, namely graphitic, amorphous and diamond particles. Relatively high signal intensity reduced time of mapping when comparing with AES approach. It was shown that even simple qualitative evaluation of carbon hybridization distribution from REELS spectra gives sufficient sensitivity for distinguishing different level of sp2 hybridization, between graphitic and amorphous phases. When a complex evaluation of REELS spectra is introduced, quantitative mapping of sp2 and sp3 hybridization could be attained. For this non-trivial task, both zero loss peak and broad backscattered electron peak must be modelled and subtracted properly.
