The effect of flue gas composition on dry removal of acid gases by sodium bicarbonate was experimentally investigated at conditions that were chosen with regard to the possibility of simultaneous removal of as many pollutants as possible in one reactor. At suitable conditions, all the aforementioned pollutants could be removed
to various extents and the applicability of the system depends to a high degree on the composition of the treated flue gas and given emission limits. The results show that, for typical composition of flue gas from waste-to-energy, the consumption of sodium bicarbonate will be more dependent on HCl than on SO2, unless the concentration of HCl is very low. The cause is the preferred reaction of the sorbent with HCl and less strict emission limits for SO2.
