The present invention relates to the rapid detection of the presence of a pathogen of economically significant plants from the tobacco mosaic virus family, based on the amplification of the specific region of the replicase gene. The selected gene segment is sequentially conserved among selected TMV isolates of China, South Korea, Spain, or the UK, making it a suitable tool for detecting this pathogen. New primers are used, for example, in phytosanitary for the diagnosis of pathogens or for the monitoring of the propagation of TMV in plant tissues.
