Lesní půdy jsou důležitou zásobárnou uhlíku a mohou napomáhat snižování koncentrace CO2 v atmosféře. Důležitými mechanismy, které v tomto procesu hrají roli, jsou rozklad organické hmoty, tedy uvolňování CO2 do atmosféry, a ukládání uhlíku z opadu do půdy, tedy tvorba půdních agregátů.

Forest soils represent an important carbon pool which can help decrease CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Important mechanisms playing roles in this process are organic matter decomposition, i.e. CO2 release into the atmosphere, and litter carbon sequestration in the soil, i.e. soil aggregate formation.
