Tato studie byla napsána u příležitosti padesátého výročí vydání publikace Naše živá i mrtvá minulost (Praha, Svoboda 1968), kterou inicioval tehdejší přední historik František Graus a v níž bylo publikováno osm esejů o hlavních problémech českých dějin především od mladších talentovaných vědců (Dušan Třeštík, František Šmahel, Josef Petráň, Miroslav Hroch, Jiří Kořalka, Bedřich Loewenstein, Věra Olivová).

This study was writen for the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Naše živá i mrtvá minulost/Our Living and Dead Past (Praha, Svoboda 1968), which was instigated by then leading historian František Graus, and in which eight essays on core problems of Czech history were published, mainly writen by younger talented researchers (Dušan Třeštík, František Šmahel, Josef Petráň, Miroslav Hroch, Jiří Kořalka, Bedřich Loewenstein, Věra Olivová).
