    The velocity field generated by a high shear rate impeller was experimentally investigated using laser Doppler anemometry, particle image analysis methods. The radial velocity component generated by discharge stream was compared with results obtained for the Rushton turbine impeller. The experimental results were also used for comparison with large eddy simulations of the agitated system. The radial discharge stream from high shear impeller is similar to Rushton turbine one. The field is more homogeneous and generally reaches lower velocity values.
