Ionic liquids (ILs) represent a group of organic salts with an enormous variability in chemical structure and physico-chemical properties and consequently with a broad application potential. The aim of this work is to establish relationships between the chemical structure and physico-chemical properties of the studied Ils and to identify the influence of coloured impurities on these properties.
In a previous study addressing the physico-chemical properties of 1-butyl-3-alkyl-imidazolium bistriflate, where alkyl is a pentyl, isopentyl, or cyclopentyl, a strong influence of the isomerization of the studied ILs was found, allowing for a fine-tuning of their properties. In the present work, the butyl substituent was replaced by
2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl. The introduction of an (oligo)ether group was choosen with regard to a possible electrochemical application, as this substituent can significantly improve the IL conductivity.
