Okolí Brněnské přehrady ležící na středním toku řeky Svratky bylo vyhledáváno lidmi již od pravěku. Vzhledem k četným archeologickým povrchovým průzkumům a častými záchrannými výzkumy dnes v okolí zájmového prostoru evidujeme desítky lokalit. Těžiště pravěkého osídlení spadá do mladší doby kamenné – neolitu. Nacházejí se zde vydatné zdroje kamenných surovin, které se v této oblasti těžily, zpracovávaly a distribuovaly do dalších regionů. Brněnská přehrada byla napuštěna na přelomu let 1939 a 1940 a s ní zmizela s obcí Kníničky na několik desítek let možnost zkoumat relikty starého osídlení. Až s projektem vedoucím k vyčištění vody od sinic došlo k výraznému odpuštění hladiny přehrady, při němž se obnažil břeh o několik metrů, a konečně bylo možné provést průzkumy, což se ve výsledku ukázalo jako pozitivní.

The surroundings of the Brno Reservoir lying in the middle reaches of the river Svratka have been sought after by people since prehistoric times. Owing to copious archaeological surface research and frequent rescue excavations nowadays, tens of locations have been registered in the surroundings of the recreational area. The centre point of the prehistoric settlement dates back to the Neolithic. There are abundant sources of stone materials, which were mined and processed in this area, and distributed to other regions. The Brno Reservoir was filled with water at the turn of the years 1939 - 1940, and together with the municipality of Kniničky, the opportunity to research the relics of old settlements disappeared for decades. Only the project of cleaning the water from cyanobacteria led to lowering the water level of the reservoir significantly, and several meters at the banks became accessible, therefore it was finally possible to carry out research, which lead to very positive results.
