The consolidation of stone and mortar represents one of the most complicated restoration technologies. This type of intervention will almost certainly influence the material qualities of a historical object. Conservation science strives constantly to produce new agents for stone and mortar conservation which are in heavy demand in today's marketplace. However, their usage in conservation projects requires the careful investigation of their impact on the historical material from a sustainability and conservation point of view.
