The motivation of this study comes from aeroelasticity of large slender engineering structures, e.g. bridge decks, towers, masts, high rise buildings, where beating effects emerge in relation with vortex shedding effects. As they are very dangerous from the viewpoint of reliability and safety of respective systems a robust theoretical background for design of adequate countermeasures should be developed. It applies mainly quasi-periodic beatings which can be encountered especially in lock-in regimes, when the vortex frequency becomes close to the structure eigen frequency with a small positive or negative detuning. In such a case, the self excited and forced vibration components combine and produce quasi-periodic response, which manifests itself as beating effects. This processes can be observed in wind tunnels not only in a basic scale but also in the meaning of super or sub-harmonic synchronization. Regimes of super and sub-harmonic synchronization remained on a heuristic basis until now and an objective theoretical background is still missing, although some papers working with frequency doubling appeared. Therefore, the authors attempt to cover this gap using qualitative analytical methods in combination with numerical procedures.
