Mateřství a zkušenosti žen s péčí o děti jsou dlouhodobě jedním z klíčových témat feministického myšlení a genderových analýz. Tento text analyzuje, jak kulturní, strukturní anebo institucionální podmínky v ČR ovlivňují mateřství a především mateřskou praxi žen ve třech vybraných generacích. Za pomoci biografických rozhovorů rozkrývá podmínky, v rámci kterých tři generace žen od padesátých let po současnost realizovaly své osobní projekty mateřství. Ukazuje tak, že dochází k významnému nárůstu a diferenciaci možností a podmínek, které se stále více stávají nejasné a neurčité. Narůstající možnosti jak realizovat svůj mateřský projekt posléze nutně vede obhajobě rozhodnutí, které ženy činí v rámci svých projektů. Sociální struktury poté určují, jak úspěšně jsou ženy (matky) schopny obájit svá rozhodnutí a jednání.

Motherhood has always been one of the key topic of feminist thought and analysis. The aim of this article is to analyse what cultural, structural, or institutional conditions influence the realisation of motherhood practices in three selected generations of Czechs (from the 1950s to today) using biographical interviews. The analysis shows that these conditions are improving, and consequently mothers have more opportunities to expand their motherhood projects. Only in the narratives of today’s mothers are these conditions uncertain and vague. They are pressed to explain every decision they make in the motherhood project. Social structures determine how successfully they are able to justify their decisions.
