Biografické heslo je věnováno osobnosti sociálnědemokratického činovníka, novináře a senátora Antonína Smetany (1863–1939). Většina jeho politicky aktivního života je spjata s působením v sociální demokracii v Moravské Ostravě, kde působil v samosprávě, než byl v roce 1920 zvolen senátorem Parlamentu Republiky československé.

The biographical article is devoted to the personality of a social democratic official, journalist and senator Antonín Smetana (1863–1939). Most of his politically active life is connected with his work in social democracy in Moravská Ostrava, where he worked in the local government before being elected senator of the Parliament of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1920.
