The author draws a nuanced portrait of John Hus – priest, preacher, scholar and reformer – who on the one hand was accused of heresy, put on trial and condemned, but on the other hand was turned into a leader of the Bohemian Reformation and a propagator of the Czech national interests. The assessment of Hus used to depend on various confessional, political and ideological interpretations. The author argues that only a careful and unbiased analysis of all available sources makes it possible to get close to the historical Hus.
