    By comparison of phenotypes of epigenetic recombinant inbred lines (epiRILs) of Arabidopsis thaliana with different ecotypes collected around the world we were able to provide direct evidence that epigenetic variation has the potential to create phenotypic variation that is stable and substantial, and thus of evolutionary significance.
