The study observes discontinuities and continuities between literary censorship of Czech Stalinism (1948-1955) and the censorship systems of the so-called Third Republic (1945-1948) or the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945). By accentuating the continuities on the level of institutions it argues for rendering Stalinist censorship not as a historical exception but merely as a phase of the authoritarian-type censorship that evolved within Czech culture since the early 1940s.
