Vynález se týká nových biologických aktivit monensinu, antibiotika izolovaného ze Streptomyces cinnamonensis. Monensin byl identifikován jako účinný inhibitor kanonické signální dráhy Wnt a byla prokázána jeho aktivita v řadě in vitro a in vivo testů. Vynález se týká farmaceutického přípravku, který obsahuje monensin nebo jeho farmaceuticky přijatelnou sůl, pro použití při léčení familiární adenomatózní polypózy.

The present invention relates to monensin novel biological activities, i.e. antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces cinnamonensis. Monensin has been identified as an effective inhibitor of canonic Wnt signaling pathway and its activity has been demonstrated in a series of both in vitro and in vivo tests. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing monensin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, for the treatment of familiar adenomatous polyposis.
