Photonic crystal (PhC) slabs can be used for effective extraction of photoluminescence (PL) from bulk material via leaky modes. The effectivity of light extraction depends on various factors e.g. refractive index contrast, lattice type, or physical dimensions of PhC. In this study, we compare the optical properties, particularly the light extraction efficiency into near-normal direction, of nanocrystalline diamond PhC slabs with square lattice. The PhC structures with various physical (PhC lattice constant, layer thickness, column height) and material (morphology of diamond layer) properties were investigated. We show that more than 100-times PL enhancement may be achieved.
