    The chemistry of polyhalogenated polyhedral anions has received considerable attention due to possibility of easy halogenations with elemental halogens, the kinetic inertness of cageB-X (X= F, Cl, Br, I) bonds. Currently the whole area undergoes renaissance due to easy tuning of physicochemical properties (stability, polarity, lipophilicity, pKa, solubility, electrochemical potentials etc). Thus, the halogenated anions are considered for applications in electrochemistry as solid electrolytes, low nucleophilic anions or contrast materials and for radio-imaging in medicinal use.
