Podle plánu Evropské unie a dalších světových velmocí má být první fúzní elektrárna uvedena do provozu do roku 2050. Klíčovými rysy budoucí fúzní energetiky budou palivo z lehkých chemických prvků umožňující bezemisní průmyslovou výrobu elektrické energie s prakticky nevyčerpatelnými a globálně dostupnými zásobami paliva, vysoká teplota paliva poskytující inherentní jadernou bezpečnost fúzních reaktorů a vysoké tepelné a neutronové zatížení fúzních reaktorů vyžadující odolné materiálové a konstrukční řešení jaderných komponent reaktorů. Tyto rysy budou každý svým způsobem ovlivňovat
jadernou bezpečnost fúzních elektráren a jejich vliv na životní prostředí.

According to the plan of the European Union and other world powers, the first fusion power plant should be put into operation by 2050. The key features of future fusion energy will be the light chemical elements fuelling providing the high ecological and emission-free industrial electricity generation with practically inexhaustible and globally available fuel resources, high fuel temperature providing the inherent nuclear safety of the fusion reactors, and high heat and neutron loading of the fusion
reactors requiring a robust material and design solutions for reactor nuclear components. These features will decisively affect the nuclear safety of fusion power plants and their impact on the environment.
