In this letter to editor, 20 students and eight trainers from 11 countries all across Europe met at the two-day training school action held in Uppsala, Sweden. In the frame of the COST Action BM1007 “Mast cells and basophils - Target for Innovative Therapies they discussed various aspects of mast cells physiology. The topics summarized in the letter involved (1) mast cell and basophil development in vivo and in vitro (2) mast cell- and basophil-deficient mouse, (3) the difference between human and mouse mast cells and basophil, and (4) are tyrosine kinase inhibitors potential targets for mast cell- and basophil-driven diseases? The combined data show accumulated knowledge about mast cell and basophils physiology and suggest new possibilities to treat mast cell- and basophil-mediated diseases.
