Brněnské prostředí tvoří historické jádro města a příměstské obce. Existují dvě formy slovní tradice a dva druhy příležitostí k vyprávění tam - tradiční venkovské a městské. Legendy jsou typickým folklorním žánrem. Česky a německy mluvící obyvatelé Brna měli společnou tradici místní a historické legendy. Legendy byly publikovány v knihách již od poloviny 19. století. Nejpopulárnější legendou je ta, která hovoří o Brněnském draku (krokodýl). Orální tradice jsou stále naživu. Brněnský repertoár také obsahuje různé výroky („Pikot“, „Petrolin“).

The Brno environment consists of city´s historic core and suburban villages. Two forms of verbal tradition and two kinds of opportunities to narrate occur there - the traditional rural and the urban ones. Legends are a typical folklore genre. Czech and German speaking Brno residents had a common tradition of local and historical legends. The legends have been published in books since the mid-19 th century to date. The most popular legend is the one speaking about the Brno Dragon (crocodile). Oral traditions are still alive. The Brno repertoire also includes different sayings („Pikot“, „Petrolin“).
