Výstava připravená v rámci projektu Strategie AV21 představuje vizuální tvorbu spojenou se světem cirkusu. Výtvarníci se od počátků cirkusu podíleli na propagačních materiálech, vedle toho se cirkusový svět stal předmětem uměleckých prací (nejen výtvarných, ale i v literatuře, divadle a filmu). Výstava ukazuje, že na jedné straně umělci cirkus zobrazovali jako nevšední podívanou, na straně druhé tematizovali svět cirkusu a jeho typické postavy v přenesených významech. Obrazy se staly metaforou stavu světa a společnosti, jejich hrdinové (klauni a akrobaté) symbolickými postavami. Autory výstavy jsou Tomáš Winter, Pavla Machalíková, ve spolupráci se Stanislavou Fedrovou.

The exhibition realized within the programme Strategie AV21 of the Czech Academy of Sciences presents visual artworks with circus themes. The world of the circus has besome from its beginnings an importatn theme not only for the visual arts, but also for literature, theatre, and film. The exhibitions shows that the circus has been presented as an extraordinary show, but on the other had it provided a space for symbolic interpretations. The paintings were always a metaphor of the world and the society and their heros - clowns and acrobats - have become symbolic figures. The authors of the exhibition are Tomáš Winter, Pavla Machalíková and Sanislava Fedrová.
