We review the current state of knowledge regarding anthropogenic land-use change impacts on mutualistic ant-plant symbioses. Possible synergies between anthropogenic impacts are pointed out, and gaps in existing knowledge are highlighted. We also describe the ant-bird's nest fern by-product mutualism as a useful model system for exploring such changes.
