Na pozadí sociálních teorií času a temporality, a především pak za využití některých poznatků z průlomové současné debaty o sociální akceleraci, tato kapitola zkoumá fenoménem vysokofrekvenčního obchodování (VFO). Spíše než detailní popis a pokus o forenzní rozkrytí praktik a procesů charakterizující VFO se kapitola soustředí na to, jakou roli sehrává (zvyšující se) rychlost VFO. Konktrétně se pak analýza věnuje střetu ultra-rychlé temporality VFO a pomalejších společenských rytmů, které charakterizují odlišné sféry společnosti a žitého světa, tj. analýza zkoumá sociální desynchronizaci, její projevy a (nezamýšlené) následky. Zároveň kapitola tvrdí, že VFO, jakožto současný symptom sociální akcelerace, je spjato se silně zakořeněnou teleologickou “vůli ke zrychlení”, která je pozorovatelná již s příchodem modernity. V závěru kapitola rozvíjí tři možné politické strategie určené k temopralizaci (tj. identifikaci přístupů artikulujících odlišné časové intervence) eskalujících rytmů sociální akcelerace, včetně VFO.

Against the background of existing sociological theories of time and temporality and by deploying specific insights from a debate on social acceleration, the present chapter examines the phenomenon of high-frequency trading (HFT). Rather than pursuing detailed forensic investigation of practices and processes that characterise HFT, the chapter focuses on the role of (increasing) speed, which is arguably constitutive feature of HFT. The chapter hence examines clashes between the ultra-fast temporality inherent to HFT and slower rhythms typical for other spheres of social domain, i.e. the analysis deals with social desynchronization and its discontents. At the same time, the chapter argues that HFT, as a contemporary symptom of social acceleration, is associated with an embedded feature of modernity which I call will-to-acceleration. The chapter concludes by charting three possible political strategies of temporalization (i.e. identification of different temporal interventions) of escalatory rhythms of social acceleration, inducing HFT.
