Kapitola sleduje proměny významů akantu jednak z hlediska vývoje od starověku do konce středověku. Za druhé, je sledována polyvalence významů akantu a jím ovlivněné ornamentiky konfrontována s dalšími dobovými prostředky dekorace rukopisů. A za třetí, jsou sledovány též proměny ornamentální výzdoby knih v kontextu v s dekorativním repertoárem ostatních soudobých druhů umění a možnostmi jejich obsahové interpretace.

Chapter follows the transformation of meanings of acanthus both in terms of its development from Antiquity to the Middle Ages. Secondly, the polyvalence meanings of acanthus is monitored and the affected ornamentation is confronted with other contemporary means of decoration of manuscripts. And third, also changes of ornamental decoration of books are studied in context with the decorative repertoire of other contemporary art forms and possibilities of their content interpretation.
