Pražská archeologie čelí v posledních desetiletích nebývalým nárokům společenské objednávky. Vzhledem k rozsáhlému stavebnímu boomu se ocitla v roli servisu, který na ni musí reagovat formou tzv. záchranného výzkumu. I takto získávané poznatky z území Velké Prahy se daří, alespoň v případě některých témat, shromažďovat, utřídit a propojit vzájemnými souvislostmi. K takovým tématům náleží zejména vývoj hmotné kultury a budování archeologické chronologie, obecnější interpretační otázky spíše výjimečně.

Prague archaeology has been facing challenging public demands in recent decades. Due to an unprecedented construction boom, archaeology finds itself in the role of a service which is provided in the form of the so-called rescue excavation. But even in the case of knowledge from the territory of Greater Prague obtained in this way, we manage, at least in some cases, to gather, classify and mutually interconnect this data. Such topics namely include the development of material culture and elaboration of archaeological chronology, general interpretation questions are only rarely raised.
