Cesium hafnium chloride is a suitable candidate for application in radiation detectors as scintillator due to its high atomic number, high light yield, high energy resolution, and low hygroscopicity. The cesium hafnium chloride was prepared by direct synthesis and purified by zone refining. Material properties of purified ingot were studied by means of X-ray fluorescence analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, and Differential scanning calorimetry. Crystal growth was performed in sealed quartz ampules by vertical Bridgman method.
