Thirteen riverine pools of the Elbe River were surveyed during autumn 2011. 26 fish species from 6 families were recorded. The presence of a number of rheophilic species indicate close connection between the pools studied and the river. Six of the species recorded are included in the Red data book of threatened fishes of the Czech Republic: nase
(Chondrostoma nasus), bitterling (Rhodeus amarus), ide (Leuciscus idus), white-fin gudgeon (Romanogobio belingi), vimba (Vimba vimba) and barbel (Barbus barbus). Five of the recorded species are non-indigenous in the Elbe basin: brown bullhead (Ictalurus nebulosus), Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio), nase, topmouth gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva) and threespined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus).
