    The polycrystalline films with a single-phase garnet structure were successfully prepared by two physical vapor deposition methods: pulsed laser deposition and electron beam evaporation. Sol-gel derived ceramics with stoichiometry (Er0.005Yb0.995)3Al5O12 (Er:YbAG) was used as a target material. The sample deposited using PLD with a subsequent annealing exhibited a pure infrared emission of Er3+: 4I13/2→4I15/2 transition with a broad maximum around 1530 nm.
