The new concept of oxide dispersion strengthened alloys is being developed at IPM. These alloys are based on the system Fe-10wt%Al-5wt%Al2O3 which replaces existing system Fe-Cr-Y-O. The alloy is prepared by powder metallurgy process followed by annealing at 1100°C for 24 hours. The current study is focused on testing of the mechanical properties at room temperature and 800°C. The room temperature properties of the new alloy are superior to the commercial ODS alloys (MA956, M957, PM200), however the high temperature performance is about 30% lower. Nevertheless, there are many possibilities to improve the properties of the Fe-Al-Al2O3 alloy via composition and thermal treatment optimization
