In some cases of pressure tests of gas pipelines plastic strains occur in the pipe wall. The primary aim of the experimental work was to investigate the effect of these strains on both the notch toughness and fracture toughness of a specific test pipe. The pressure overloading was simulated on bands made without straightening of pipe segments, namely by successive removals of metal layers by milling in the tangential direction of the curved segments. Plastic strains ranging from 0.0005 to 0.0011 were obtained by overloading of the bands. Subsequent tests of the notch- and fracture toughness of specimens from overloaded and non-overloaded bands made it possible to assess the effect of plastic strains on fracture properties of the material investigated.
