Six different limestones were calcined in a laboratory furnace. Their chemical
composition was determined and their hydraulic potential was calculated based on the cementation index. Slaking reactivity and mineralogical composition of the produced limes were assessed in order to describe their quality. The burnt limes were used to produce mortars in their unslaked form. Three sets of mortars with two different sands and mixing proportions were prepared. Performance of the binders and mortars was assessed by mechanical tests on standard prims after 28 and 90 days of curing. The results demonstrate the differences between the limes and their properties alone or as a binder.
